In 2006 the Pennsylvania DOT and the state tourism office commissioned Meeker & Associates to develop a conceptual design for a statewide signing system based on the theme of the “ State of Independence.” This plan, based on our work to upgrade highway sign standards for the Pennsylvania DOT, was designed to augment highway signage to identify regions, jurisdictions, cities, colleges, historic sites, parks, and other public resources in a way that would consistently reflect that there is something different and special about Pennsylvania.
