Meeker & Associates was asked to prepare a visual analysis and design plan for the ANSI Z-535 Committee to use in planning its 1998 upgrade of the ANSI standards, which are used for industrial and product safety signs. Committee members included sign manufacturers, industrial psychologists, color scientists, and safety engineers. Based on our designs, a White Paper was prepared on the current research and recommendations for upgrades for each component of a safety sign including color, signal word, symbol use, ISO interface, typography, and format.
