Developing an approach to this park, which is 186 miles long presented
its own specific challenges. This included the design of an information kiosk program for every public access point
with orientation maps, rules and site specific user information, and the introduction to a Leave-No-Trace program.
A particular challenge was to develop a waterway safety information program that addressed the unique hazards of
rapids and waterfalls along the Potomac River in which illustrations were designed for ease of understanding by non
English speaking visitors.
